There are indications that Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello’s re-election bid is under major threats following the decision of Mustapha Audu, son of former late governor Abubakar Audu, to contest in the November governorship poll.

According to reports, there are certain interests within the presidency that are seriously considering throwing weight behind late Audu’s son and working against the incumbent governor.

The son of the former governor has declared an intention to become the next governor of Kogi state and has initiated an intense awareness campaign.

According to reports monitored, the young Audu is riding heavily on the support of the political structure of his late father and the sympathy of the former governor’s associates to gain public acceptance.

It was gathered that the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has become concerned about Mustapha Audu’s growing popularity at the expense of the unpopularity of salary owing governor Yahaya Bello who is battling serious allegations of bad performance.

Further details showed that the possibility of adopting the younger Audu as the APC candidate to enable the party to retain the state with a win in the November 2019 gubernatorial election is being seriously considered.

According to justumagazine.com, part of efforts to achieve this objective, major players within the presidency have reached out to Mustapha Audu and initiated major discussion.

The magazine that has veteran Adewale Ademokoya has publisher reported that Mustapha had a call from the Presidency on Thursday, May 16, 2019, and had an over one-hour meeting with the Gideon Sammani, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Far-reaching propositions that may knock off re-election seeking Governor Yahaya Bello’s chances of retaining the APC gubernatorial candidate for the November election was reportedly considered.

While this development is said to have buoyed the confidence of Mustapha’s supporters in his chances of becoming the next governor, it has made lobbying hard to retain the party leaders confidence governor Bello naturally more embattled insiders disclose.
