COVID-19: Police arrest Funke Akindele for hosting party amid social distance order

Naira Marley, JJC, others may be placed on a wanted list

Popular Nollywood star actress and producer, Funke Akindele-Bello, has been arrested by officers of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly hosting a crowded birthday party amid social distance order given by the government.

The Lagos state government recently issued an order restraining all forms of gathering to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in the state.

But Funke Akindele and her husband allegedly defied the social distance order by organising a party with a large crowd.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana confirmed Funke Akindele’s arrest Sunday night.

Elkana said the command’s attention was drawn to a viral video showing a large number of persons mainly in the entertainment industry in an estate, along Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki axis, Lagos.

The event which attracted the large of people was a birthday party organised by Funke Akindele-Bello and her husband.

“Police detectives from the State CID Yaba were promptly drafted to the location. Funke Akindele was immediately arrested.

“Investigation is ongoing, efforts are intensified to arrest the remaining persons in the video, among whom are Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley and Abdul Rasheed Bello a.k.a. JJC Skillz.”

The statement warned them to report at the State CID Yaba on Monday, 6th April 2020 or risk being declared wanted.

Meanwhile, Funke Akindele, who has been under attack by some Twitter users for her action, has since tendered an apology in a video.
